The National Council for the Child (NCC) leads unique data and information projects in Israel and internationally, grounded in the integration of systematic, cross-sector data collection with professional, policy-oriented research. Together, these components form a central foundation for understanding the situation of children and youth in Israel and for advancing their rights.
Data Collection
The NCC conducts ongoing, structured collection of data across all domains of children’s lives in Israel. The data are gathered from government ministries, public bodies, and other official sources; analyzed by the NCC; and published annually in the statistical yearbook “Children in Israel.”
The yearbook is a comprehensive repository of data on children and youth in Israel. It includes hundreds of tables and charts updated each year and provides a long-term picture of trends in demographics, education, health, welfare, family, leisure, crime, and more.
Its uniqueness lies not only in its breadth, but in its consistency and professional rigor. A wide, longitudinal dataset creates a reliable, analyzable picture of childhood in Israel. The NCC’s long-standing work has established standards of accuracy, transparency, and professionalism that influence — and improve — the quality of data collection and reporting across public institutions in Israel.
Policy-Oriented Research
Alongside data collection, the NCC conducts extensive research across a broad range of issues relating to the rights of children and youth in Israel. This research is grounded in a children’s rights approach and is designed to have direct impact on policy and practice.
Our research integrates academic literature reviews, international comparative learning, consultation with professionals and field practitioners, analysis of public data, and—critically—the voices of children and youth themselves.
This combined methodology produces relevant, innovative, rich, and actionable knowledge that supports the identification of needs and challenges, the design of required responses, and the adaptation of policy to the rights and lived realities of children and youth in Israel.
The NCC’s data and research serve decision-makers, professionals, researchers, civil society organizations, and the wider public. They support evidence-based decision-making, inform service and program planning, highlight long-term trends, and deepen understanding of the daily realities of children and youth in Israel.
